Our SEND Team

Our SEND team is headed by Mrs Vicky Newington, our highly skilled SEND Manager. Mrs Newington oversees all aspects of SEND provision and acts as our point of contact with a wide range of outside agencies. Mrs Newington leads our team of Teaching Assistants,  working with teachers and TAs to identify pupils’ individual needs, and the most appropriate means of supporting them. Regular TA meetings are held by Mrs Newington, to share best practice and recent training. Mrs Newington has an excellent understanding of a huge variety of SEND issues, and is extremely effective in her ability to securse the very best level of support for each individual pupil, including our management of referrals to the Early Help Service – often meeting with parents to make a referral to access additional support for a pupil and/or their family as a whole. A qualified teacher, Mrs Newington also works as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), supporting pupils with their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Mrs Newington has a huge amount of experience supporting pupils with ASC and also does a great deal of work preparing less confident pupils for the transition to secondary school.

Mrs Katie Lepavoux and Mrs Naomi Whyman are our SEN Teaching Assistants. Mrs Lepavoux has a wealth of experience and expertise supporting pupils with specific learning difficulties – an area sometimes referred to as Cognition and Learning. Mrs Lepavoux works with individual pupils in Key Stage 2, often two or three times a day for short periods of time, devising and implementing highly personalised learning programmes that address specific areas of difficulty. Mrs Lepavoux’s expertise means that she is very highly regarded by all members of our team, who often benefit from her support and guidance. Mrs Whyman has a background in Early Years education and works with pupils in Reception and Key Stage 1 to support the acquisition and development of early language and literacy skills.

Supporting the work of the identified SEND team are our highly skilled Teaching Assistants. TAs are deployed by the SEND Manager and Headteacher to support pupils’ needs – on both individual and whole class levels. TAs may deliver targeted interventions to individuals or small groups, or provide whole class support.
